Simphiwe Nkwali
About me
Simphiwe Nkwali is a former senior photographer at the Sunday Times in Johannesburg, South Africa. Born in 1978, Simphiwe studied photography at the Market Photo Workshop in Newtown, Johannesburg, following his experience as a street photographer for over 10 years. His collective experience as a photographer totals 20 years.
He has worked for a number of leading newspapers namely Die Burger and Beeld newspapers. He has covered notable events including sports and news in South Africa and other African countries, namely, the Zimbabwean 2008 & 2013 elections, USA President Barrack Obama’s state visit to SA, the Somalia Femine, 2010 FIFA World Cup, 2007 ANC Conference in Polokwane, FIFA Confederations Cup in 2009, Xenophobic attacks in South Africa. South African national elections and the South African state visit to Anglola (2008), South African presidential Inauguration (2009).
Simphiwe has photographed a number of dignitaries including Former South African Presidents Nelson Mandela, Thabo Mbeki and SA Jacob Zuma as well as covering former USA President Barrack Obama’s visit to South Africa and other heads of states including the former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela.
